Plantago ovata, commonly known as desert Indian wheat, is a medicinal plant that was introduced to India by Indian Muslims. Plantagoseed mucilage is often referred to as husk, or psyllium husk. Clinically Psyllium acts as a bulk laxative and thus is most effective in forming feces. It efficacy in the treatment of constipation, diarrhea and hypercholesterolemia is well researched.
