The botanical name of Senna or “Swarna pattri” is Cassia Angustifolia. This perennial, medicinal under-shrub is well known for its purgative properties. The green leaves contain glycosides like sennocides A and B, along with other active constituents like Anthraquinone, which act as excellent laxatives. They affect the intestinal tract and provide relief from habitual constipation. The leaf powder has been used in some of the common Ayurvedic drugs like Sarivadyasava, Ayulax, Kultab tablets, etc.
