Moringa Oleifera commonly known as ‘drumstick tree’ or ‘horseradish tree’ is native to India. Every part of this tree has nutritional and commercial value. The leaves are rich in minerals, vitamins and other essential phytochemicals, and thus act as an effective remedy for malnutrition. The phytochemicals such as tannins, saponins, alkaloids, flavonoids and cardiac glycosides are responsible for its medicinal properties. The leaves of this multipurpose tree form an ingredient of the famous Ayurvedic medicine called ‘Varanadi kashayam’.
