Acorus calamus, commonly known as sweet flag or “Vacha”, is an aromatic perennial herb which has been used in several ayurvedic formulations since time immemorial. The rhizome, roots and leaves of this plant are put to different medicinal uses. An essential oil called asarone oil is the characteristic of this plant which accounts for some of its medicinal properties. There is a great demand for this medicinal plant due to its multiple medicinal uses.
